Other similar models made by G&G are the Carbine, A2, A3, and R5 long rifles. Behind the 14mm CCW steel flash-hider and under the front sight post lays a three-element sturdy outer barrel supported by a mock gas-tube. The first portion of the barrel being made of steel, next the press-fit central fore grip section composed of anodized aluminum, and internally a threaded joint connecting to the receiver made of non-anodized aluminum. Inside lies a brass tight-bore barrel callipered at 6.035mm. Shrouding the outer barrel, a removable magnesium front rail-system is cleverly secured underneath by a screw and catch joint lever at both the collar and delta ring. Unlike Marui’s spring-loaded soft-aluminum catch, G&G’s design incorporates a more secure locking system in the rear. Users have griped about loose foregrips and barrel wobble issues for many years. G&G has solved the problem by integrating not only the solid outer barrel design, but also a metal collar ring adjoining the front sight and a heavy duty “real steel?design Delta-Ring with lock ring, and mock gas tube in the rear. Thus, the design has three areas of stabilizing the front assembly. Lateral movement is confined by the two sight pins and set screw located at the front of the barrel then connected to the mock gas tube that runs under the RIS to the gun’s top receiver. Pressure to the rear of the RIS is exerted by the heavy compression of the Delta Spring that acts as another means of stabilizing the front end to prevent rattling when handling the vertical grip. The design of the receiver allows for proper maintenance of the inner barrel and hop-up chamber. The frame’s locking pin can be firmly tapped to an OPEN position. Unlike other M16 models, it is grooved and pinned so as not to separate from the lower receiver. Users may not find it easy, but careful disassembly of the lower grip and related pins and catches gives access to both gearbox and hop-up chamber. An enhanced aluminum hop-up chamber and packing tops off the inner barrel with accented red-dials. Additionally, the 6 position polymer retractable LE stock is supported by the recoil tube which in turn is held by friction maintained by the main screw that sandwiches a steel sling ring and a removable aluminum threaded extension. This extension butts up against the gearbox creating support inside the receiver. Those with foreknowledge of Marui’s M4 and most metal receiver designs will be impressed! Our inspection of their R25K high-torque motor (located inside the reinforced threaded polymer grip) is reminiscent of Systema’s own versions and an EG1000 series. The pinion gear is unique with a shorter tapered crown and delrin spindle collar show areas of effective cost cutting. And now, for the gearbox! The first noticeable difference is the reinforced 7mm gearbox, casted in aluminum with reinforced material. This points to upgrade potential! Mechanically speaking, G&G’s done well with the following: 7mm Oiless metal bushings set Type-0 Cylinder and standard head Acetal Sealed Air-Nozzle Poly-type tappet plate Poly-type Vented Pistonhead and non-bearing spacer Poly-type piston M100 rated spring and pin-type non-bearing spring guide Original Ratio style Steel Sector Gear, AL spur and bevel gear v.1 type Reinforced Anti-Reverse latch & spring Improved Contact Assembly and fuse protected wiring setup Sounds of the gears rotating prove to be a smoother operating of the gearbox in both semi and full-auto. The 450rnd metal hicap mag was also satisfactory without feeding issues. Attention to application of lube and tuning work was done. With great surprise, the chrono read as high as 370fps using .20g Excel BBs with an average of 360fps! Normal break-in time of AEGs will occur after 1000rnds, so we anticipate their factory spec of 330fps without hesitation. We are quite impressed with the entire gun—externally and internally.
